Glorious St. Mark, through the grace of God our Father, you became a great Evangelist, preaching the Good News of Christ. May you help us to know Him well so that we may faithfully live our lives as followers of Christ.
Amen.
- My Catholic Prayers
St. Mark, the Evangelist, is one of the four Gospel writers, and his writings are based upon the teachings of St. Peter. It is believed that St. Mark provided St. Luke and St. Matthew with basic sources for their gospels.
St. Mark lived and preached in Alexandria, Egypt. He is believed to have founded the Church in Alexandria and was named the first Bishop of Alexandria. St. Mark became a martyr after pagans imprisoned him and dragged him through the streets of the city. His relics were kept in Egypt, but were later transferred to Venice.
The life and Gospel of St. Mark remind us to take up our cross, follow Jesus, and share the Good News with others! We celebrate his Feast Day on April 25th.
