What is a Mass Intention?
Whenever a priest celebrates Mass, he applies the grace of the Mass toward a specific need or intention which is offered to God in and through the Eucharist. The priest may only accept one Mass intention donation for each Mass, which is normally announced during the prayers of the faithful. The pastor is required by Church law to offer at least one Mass on holy days and each Sunday for the intentions of the people, pro populo.
At St. Mark, we offer a Mass for the repose of the soul of anyone whose funeral is celebrated at St. Mark. Additionally, a Mass is offered at the one year anniversary of the passing.
Mass intentions will be published in the bulletin. -
Types of Mass Intentions
A Mass intention may be for:
- A deceased loved one
- A living person who is sick or suffering
- A living person who is celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or other special moment in life
NOTE: Mass intentions are reserved for one person, one couple, or family surname per Mass. (Ex. Mr. John Smith; John Smith; Mr. and Mrs. John Smith; John and Jane Smith; The Smith Family)
A Mass intention may NOT be for:- An unknown or "private" intention
- A prayer intention that contradicts Catholic moral doctrine

To provide fair access to all, Mass intentions will be released in 3-month intervals. For 2025, they will become available for selection on the following dates.- December 10, 2024
- March 10, 2025
- June 10, 2025
- September 10, 2025
Each household may request up to 12 Mass intentions per year - no more than 3 requests can be made per quarter.
NOTE: Mass intentions made after office business hours, M-F, 9am-4pm, will be reserved, but not guaranteed until final approval. -

Memorial RequestsMemorial requests will be published in the bulletin.
Sanctuary Candle
The sanctuary candle (red light) is located next to the tabernacle. It burns in honor or memory of a loved one. A donation of $15 is requested.
Altar Flowers
Altar flowers are placed in front of the ambo. Altar flowers may be offered in honor or memory of a loved one or special occasion, such as a wedding anniversary. A donation of $125 is requested.
Altar flowers are not offered during the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent.

Can I get a refund?
Can I make an additional donation in the same transaction?
Donations given for Mass intentions and memorials are non-refundable. However, you can transfer or reschedule your offering to a different date at any time.
Yes, you can help the parish cover the cost of the bank charge and add the processing fee to your donation (3.5% + .20) or make any gift amount.
How do I indicate that it's a special type of anniversary or intention?
Select the occasion. Then, in the "Notes" section, indicate the type of anniversary or intention. (Ex. "10th Anniversary")
I'd like to send a Mass card to someone. Where do I put the forwarding address?
In the "Notes" section, fill in the name and address of the person who you'd like to receive the card. Also, please consider in your donation, the cost of postage.
Is there a limit to the number of intentions I can make?
Yes. To accommodate as many members of our community as possible, each household may request up to 12 Mass intentions per year - no more than 3 requests can be made per quarter or transaction.
