The Eucharist is the sacrament of love: it signifies love, it produces love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life.
- St. Thomas Aquinas
The Eucharist is the Source and Summit of the Christian life. In the celebration of the Eucharist, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ. The Church invites us to celebrate the Eucharist and to receive Holy Communion "often" and "worthily" (CCC 1389). Because the Eucharist strengthens one's unity with the faith community, a person must be a baptized Catholic to receive the Body and Blood of Christ.
