By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that he may raise them up and save them. And indeed, she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the People of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.
- Catechism of the Catholic Church #1499
The Sacrament of Anointing is given to individuals experiencing mental, physical, or spiritual illness. The primary purpose of an anointing is spiritual healing. The oil of the sick is administered to an individual's forehead and hands. The sacrament bestows the gifts of peace and courage upon the sick to help them face the adversities of their illness.
Individuals do not need to wait until the point of death to receive an anointing. The sacrament can be given to individuals before a surgery or admittance to a care facility.
To request an anointing, please contact [email protected] or (910) 398-6509. For life-or-death emergencies outside of our normal business hours, please call (910) 399-1591 and leave a message. Your call will be returned as soon as possible.
